The onset of the seventh edition of the International Conference on Asian Libraries (ICAL-2024) added more value to the milestones registered in the name of the Akal Network. ICAL-2024 is a joint initiative of Akal University and the premier Asian Library Association. The conference is themed “Academic Libraries: Sustaining Excellence through Innovation and Technology”. More than 100 eminent personalities across the globe joined the event to collaborate and share their expertise in the field.
Beginning of the Conference
The organizing crew led by organizing secretary Mr. Shahzeb Hasan, worked tirelessly to make this conference a remarkable success. The beginning of the conference was featured with prayers to seek the blessings of the almighty. Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Gurmail Singh graced the event with his eminent presence. Dr. S.S. Dhaka, President of the Asian Library Association drew the attention of the audience and highlighted the significance of the conference. Dr. P.R. Goswami, former library director of the Planning Commission of India elaborated on the transformative impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on academic libraries.
Technical Sessions and Panel Discussion
The conference featured the field experts Dr. Khushpreet Singh from Panjab University, Chandigarh; Dr. S.M. Abbas from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi; Dr. Habibur Rahman Khan, Deputy Librarian, AMU, Aligarh; Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Former Director, NIFT, New Delhi. Panel Discussion was moderated by Professor PR Goswami, Former Library Director, Planning Commission of India-Library NASSDOC, Central Secretariat and IGNCA, New Delhi. Professor Jagtar Singh, Director, Collaboration and Partnership, IATLIS, Patiala delivered a captivating talk featuring almost 40 years of his experience in the realm of academic library.
Excellent Platform for Collaboration and Networking
Akal University frequently arranges national and international conferences, and workshops to expand the learning horizon of all the individuals connected to its widened network. The International Conference of Academic Libraries registered 60-70 paper presentations in hybrid mode. Distinguished scholars, professors, and library managers from all over the world presented research breakthroughs and unveiled futuristic possibilities, in front of the attendees. They uncover substantial research ranging from content management, the impact of digitalization on the usage of libraries, cost and sustainability models, etc.
The conference concluded with a valedictory address by Major General GS Lamba, Dean of Academic Affairs. He discussed the relevance of promoting library studies among students, sustaining librarianship, and the role of the library community in constructing an informed and knowledgeable society.
Mr. Shahzeb Hasan delivered a vote of appreciation for the overwhelming response received at the conference. The conference proved to be a vibrant platform to elaborate on technological interventions to comprehend the evolving landscape of library networks and focused on exploring ways to upgrade library services. Students from all the departments very enthusiastically took the benefit of attending the spectacular event.
