Significant events and developments characterize June at Akal University. These are the glimpses from the month of the international webinar, skill enhancement courses, and organization of camps, internships, and workshops, celebrating the remarkable achievement of one of our professors.
International Webinar on Energy Traps in Atomic Nuclei
As part of the Physics Research Webinar Series, the Department of Physics hosted a second international webinar. The webinar entitled “Energy Traps in Atomic Nuclei” was scheduled for June 5. Prominent Professor P.M. Walker of the University of Surrey’s Physics Department in the United Kingdom chaired the event. Participants got enlightening insights about the isomeric states. This webinar series is a commendable initiative of the Department of Physics to provide them with exposure.
Computer Fundamentals Course
To equip the youth with the latest tools and technologies, our Department of Computer Science and Engineering took the initiative of introducing the Computer Fundamentals Course during the summer camp. It is a government-recognized course aimed at gaining proficiency in basic computer applications.
Our university makes this available at a very minimalistic price so that it can be accessible to all. Also, free transportation is available for the participants. The easy availability of such skill enhancement courses in modern educational settings leads to the comprehensive development of learners.
UPSC Summer Camp
The Center for Competitive Examination at Akal University organized a summer camp for students preparing for various government exams. The objective of the summer camp is to provide them with a platform where they can understand the nature of competitive exams and learn to prepare strategically. The camp also provides them with answer-writing sessions and introduces them to relevant study material and test series to keep track of their performance. Students were grouped in different batches as per their requirements and caliber.
Workshop on “Course on Nuclear Experiments“
The Department of Physics’s eleven students actively participated in a workshop on “Course on Nuclear Experiments.”. The workshop was organized from June 17 to 22 at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR, Mumbai. Students possess an intense interest in the field of nuclear physics. Previously, they have presented their authentic research papers at various conferences and symposiums. This workshop was again a great chance to explore the different aspects of nuclear physics.
Dr. Sushil Kumar Received International Research Grant
Dr. Sushil, Head of the Department of Physics, has been recently awarded a prestigious research project by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. The project entitled “Nuclear Structure and Decay Data Evaluation of A=215 and 220 Isobars,” part of the IAEA Coordinated Research Project, is set for 4 years (2024-2028) with a grant of 16,000 euros (approximately 15 lacs). This project has the groundbreaking capability to unveil the various intricacies of nuclear physics.
Yoga Day Celebration
International Yoga Day is observed on June 21. Our NSS Unit is profoundly engaged in promoting physical, psychological, and spiritual wellness among the entire university community. Considering that commitment, the university takes adequate measures. This year, we creatively celebrated Yoga Day and dedicated it to women’s empowerment. The celebration began with breathing exercises; later, attendees learned more asanas and meditation techniques.
IBM SkillsBuild Data Analytics Internship 2024
Students of the Department of Management are participating in a six-week IBM SkillsBuild Data Analytics Internship. The virtual workshop aims at acquiring efficiency in data analytics through distinctive tools such as Python, machine learning, and data visualization. The internship program features expert guidelines, interactive sessions with mentors, etc. Projects involving real-world scenarios to get cutting-edge experience and proficiency in decision-making and problem-solving. With this learner-centric program, students will certainly excel in professional and technical skills.
UPSC Civil Services Project 2024
The Center for Competitive Examination organized an entrance test that attempted to select the top 30 students across India. This is going to be a dedicated batch to prepare for UPSC. It will be a fully funded preparation and aspirants need not pay anything. Students will be prepared under the guidance of expert faculty members and adequate resources will be provided to them. Approximately 600 students applied and 30 will be selected through the rigorous selection process that involves various stages.
