Empowering Lecture by Dr. Divya Gupta Jindal

Red Ribbon Club hosted a lecture cum interactive session by Dr. Divya Gupta Jindal, MBBS, MS FMAS OBGY, Consultant at Jindal Multi-speciality Hospital, Talwandi Sabo. The event was coordinated by Dr. Navjot Kaur (PT), and Dr. Ankita Saraswat. Dr. Jindal’s session focused on increasing understanding among females about PCOD/PCOS. She emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, treatment, a balanced diet, and following a healthy lifestyle in coping with this health complexity.

Receiving the Best Paper Award at ICISD-2024

Dr. Sheikh Basharul Islam distinguished Professor at Akal Business School received an Award for Best Paper at the third edition of the International Conference on Innovation and Sustainable Business Practices in the Digital Era-2024. Dr. Bashar’s paper entitled “Deciphering the Role of Consumer Psychographics in Shaping Intention Towards Organic Food Choices: A Parallel in the Digital Era-2024”. The critical findings of the paper will be instrumental in unraveling the complex knots in the digitized business world.

Visionary Workshop by the Department of Social Sciences

The Department of Social Sciences under the instruction of Head, Dr. Hilal Ramzan hosted a One-day workshop on “Caring and Inclusive Society India: Embracing the Vision of Viksit Bharat@ 2027”. The event was presided over by Professor Mohammad Aftab Alam, Department of Political Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. Students presented their models and posters based on Imagining India in 2047.

World Autism Awareness Day

Ms. Priyanka, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology along with her team hosted an awareness drive on the occasion of World Autism Day. The program aimed at raising awareness of Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Team Psychology Club tied blue ribbons to the hands of students and staff as a symbolic gesture to demonstrate support and a sense of community.

Interactive Session on Internship and Placement Opportunities

Mr. Kamal Chabbra, Founder Director, International Relations North America, MSME & Startup Forum Bharat, interacted with the students of Akal Business School regarding Excellent Internships and Placement Opportunities. Akal Business School in association with the Training and Placement Office provides a suitable platform to students where they can invest their talent and can give thrust to their career goals.

Celebrating the Scholarly Achievement of Dr. Rashim Wadhwa

Dr. Rashim Wadhwa, Associate Professor in the Department of Education, has been invited to deliver a paper at the WES-CIHE Summer Institute. The WES-CIHE Summer Institute is collaboratively organized by World Education Services (WES) and the Boston College Center for International Higher Education (CIHE). The event will be held from June 4 to 5 at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, USA. Dr. Wadhwa will be presenting her paper on “Equitable Higher Education in Times of Disruption”.

Seven-day NSS Camp

Our vibrant NSS Unit hosted a seven-day camp entitled “Youth for Swasth Bharat”. It included expert talks, village surveys, awareness campaigns, etc. Dr. Divya Gupta Jindal delivered a lecture entitled “Empowering Women: Understanding PCOD/PCOS” was delivered. Mr. Naresh Pathania, a first aid trainer from Red Cross Bhawan, Bathinda demonstrated first aid techniques and methods to the students. Dr. Gursimran Kaur, Block Educator, Civil Hospital talked about the prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, and cancer among people.

Expert Talk on Research Scope of Automation in Orthodontics

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized an expert talk on the research scope of automation in orthodontics by Dr. Shailendra Rana and Dr. Iknoor Kaur Gill. This talk discussed the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in the healthcare sector in general and orthodontics in particular. The session was also featured with a question and answer session where students openly asked their queries.

National Webinar on Re-Imagining Folklore through Poetry

The Department of English Studies has successfully arranged a national webinar on “Re-Imagining Folklore through Poetry” chaired by distinguished Poet and Professor Nandini Sahu from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. Professor Sahu’s eminent personality of Indian English Literature delivered an insightful lecture on the origin, and evolution of folklore and its relevance in contemporary society.

Workshop on Metaverse

Mr. Inderjot Singh from Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, USA took a one-day workshop on Metaverse. Dr. Upinder Kaur, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering shared the outline of the workshop with the students. Mr. Singh delineated the scope of metaverse in various fields and also discussed. During the interactive session, students shared their respective queries.

Earth Day Celebration

The Department of Zoology and Medical Sciences jointly observed Earth Day with the theme “Planet vs Plastics”. It was featured with expert talk, model exhibition, etc. Expert talk entitled “Genomics Resources: Introduction and Utilization for Biodiversity Conservation” presided over by Dr. Vinay Kumar Yadav, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Botany at the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda.

Community Living Program

A week-long Community Living Program was arranged from 18 to 25 April by the Department of Education. The program was aimed at equipping the pre-service teachers with tools and techniques to comply with the holistic learning environment. This Community Living Program is advertised with a series of workshops, and expert guidance. Students accompanied by professors visited Mahant Gurbanta School for the Deaf and Dumb to develop an understanding of the functioning of such institutes.

International Conference on Asian Libraries (ICAL-2024)

Akal Campus brimmed with the scholarly presence of almost 100 delegates across the globe to attend the International Conference on Asian Libraries. The conference is a joint initiative of the Asian Library Association themed “Academic Libraries: Sustaining Excellence through Innovation and Technology”. Library Head, Mr. Shahzeb Hasan, organizer of the event shared the objectives and significance of such conferences. The conference featured 60-70 paper presentations, panel discussions, and a library exhibition. Distinguished personalities in the field of library such as Dr. S.S. Dhaka, President of the Asian Library Association; Dr. P.R. Goswami, former library director of the Planning Commission of India; Professor Jagtar Singh, Director, Collaboration and Partnership, IATLIS, Patiala chaired the premier event.

Ms. Pinky Selected for DST Inspire Scholarship

Our Department of Physics proudly announced the prestigious achievement of its students. Ms. Pinky, a student of the 2021-2023 batch, was selected for the DST Inspire (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) fellowship sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology. Every year DST selects 1,000 meritorious individuals to pursue their PhD in basic and applied sciences.

International Webinar by the Department of Psychology

One-day International Webinar “Win-Win Conflict Resolution” chaired by distinguished speaker Dr. Susan Heitler, Ph.D. from Israel. This virtual webinar attracted almost 200 participants from various departments. Dr. Susan expert in clinical psychology elaborated strategies and ways for conflict resolution.

Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights

The Department of Computer and Engineering, in collaboration with the Training and Placement Office, conducted a workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Mr. Shailendra Singh, Assistant Controller of Patents and Design, a Group A gazette officer from the Patent Office, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, New Delhi spoke about the patent laws, their functioning, and how they encourage innovation and creativity while protecting the rights of creators.

Psychology Team won the Best Paper Award

Under the guidance of Ms. Priyanka, three students from the Department of Psychology won the ‘Best Paper Award’ at an International Conference on Recent Innovations in Science Engineering Management and Humanities. The conference was hosted at Government Polytechnic for Women Bemina Srinagar, in association with Mind Gates Softtech Solutions Pvt. Ltd and J&K Skill Development. The paper entitled “Exploring New Ideas and Opportunities for Career Advancement: A Psychological Perspective”.

Bidding Farewell to NCC First Batch

Goodbyes are not that easy but meeting the new hopes and aspirations excite us. It was an intensely emotional moment for all those who joined to bid farewell to the first batch of NCC cadets. In three years, these students demonstrated hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving the country. Our university feels proud to have such spirits. Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Gurmail Singh congratulated them and gave them his blessings for future endeavors.
