Day 1 – Rekindling Memories: Recap of Akal University’s Alumni Meet
Reunion stories are always exciting, but living those moments is even more exhilarating. For students who joined the campus after an extended period, their eyes seemed to speak to the walls, plants, and furniture. There was a strange spark in their eyes, and that was mesmerizing. Everybody was excited to meet their friends, teachers.
The Alumni Meet was a great success, and the students enthusiastically participated. Dr. Sandeep Singh Chahal, Assistant Dean of Alumni of the University and event convener, formally welcomed the gathering and comprehended the association’s aim.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Gurmail Singh, addressed the students and appreciated the enthusiasm of the students, and detailed the progress of the institution, which is rooted in its mission of keeping universal harmony and brotherhood. He wished all the students a bright future.
The first edition of Alumni Magazine was also released at the Meet.
The students shared their memories of the event, which made the event emotional. The faculty members from all the departments were present at the Meet, making it an excellent chance for the students to reconnect with them.
Day 2 – Honoring Accomplishments at Convocation Ceremony
The 2nd Day was the convocation ceremony, where 362 students graduated with Ph.D., post-graduation, and graduate degrees. The event started around 11 am with the procession on a red carpet. The chief guest for the Day, Prof. Dr. Buta Singh Sidhu, Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, led the academic procession along with Baba (Dr.) Davinder Singh, the President of Kalgidhar Trust and Chancellor of Akal University.
The Department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies students recited the Shabad and sought blessings to start the event.
Dignitaries from the academic and industrial world and well-wishers of the University were also present at the event.
Prof. Dr. Gurmail Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University, presented a detailed progress report of the past academic year, highlighting the achievements of students and faculties in academics and the developments in infrastructure.
Finally, the Chief Guest awarded the students with their hard-earned achievements. Students and their parents were really very happy when they held their degrees in their hands.
Major General Dr. Gurcharan Singh Lamba, Dean of Academic Affairs, congratulated the degree holders and delivered the vote of thanks. All the participants sang the national anthem after the proceedings of the Day were dissolved with the permission of the chair, Dr. Davinder Singh Ji.
The event was not only to celebrate academic achievements but also an opportunity to reconnect with fellows and faculties. After the event, students gathered on the lawn, where a group photo session with the faculty members was organized.
Students shared their experiences with freshers about how day scholars shared food with hostellers, their busy weekends in preparation for Monday tests, canteen food, and talks, and making reels at different spots. These were unforgettable memories that are still fresh in their minds. And they said they relived it at two-day celebrations during alumni meetings and convocation.
Fostering a Strong Alumni Network
Celebrating accomplishments and honoring the students boosts the morale of the student. It motivates them to achieve higher in their life. It also inspires future generations to strive for excellence.
Building an Alumni network is crucial not only for the students but also for the University to stay in touch with its graduates and to utilize their knowledge for the good of the academic community. This 2-day event, Alumni Meet and Convocation Day, is a testament to Akal University’s efforts of building a strong alumni network.
