This May our campus recorded various monumental events, including the organization of an international webinar, alumni meet, convocation, the establishment of a comfort corner, and digital library. Akal University holds a strong commitment to the transformative role of higher education institutes in empowering the student community. International Webinar on “Nuclear Shell Model”

To enhance the understanding of the realm of physics among its students, the Department of Physics has recently initiated a Physics Research Seminar Series. On May 31, 2024, Professor P. Van Isacker, GANIL, France, talked about the “Nuclear Shell Model.” More than 300 individuals from various corners of the world joined the webinar in offline and online modes. Participants were from prestigious institutions such as IITs, IISER, 48 universities, 32 colleges, and 20 states across India, and global participation includes the UK, Canada, USA, Japan, Nigeria, China, Israel, Malaysia, Italy, South Africa, and the Philippines.

Paper Presentation at ICSSR, Dehradun

Ms. Priyanka, the head of the psychology department, proudly announced the recent successes of students who gave a paper at the ICSSR-sponsored National Seminar on “Sustainable Development: Bridging Economic and Environmental Sustainability in Hilly Regions.” The seminar was held at Rajkiya Snatkottar Mahavidyalaya, Dehradun. Under the guidance of Ms. Priyanka, Ms. Rupinder Kaur, Ms. Komaldeep Kaur, and Ms. Anmoldeep worked very hard to make this presentation a potential success.

Alumni Meet

Everything feels so lively and joyful when former students from different batches join their campus and meet their friends, faculty members, etc. After completing registration formalities, students joined the meeting hall and shared their wonderful experiences at the campus. While revisiting the university premises, their eyes filled with strange sparks as a bunch of memories got refreshed. Such reunions are highly beneficial for networking and play a crucial role in strengthening the students’ relationship with their alma mater.

Convocation Ceremony

The Convocation Ceremony is the annual event conducted on campus. During the event, degrees and accolades were distributed to the students. Dr. Davinder Singh Ji, the Chancellor, shared his insightful views with the students. The honorable Vice Chancellor congratulated the degree recipients and wished them the best for future ventures. To recognize the remarkable achievements of the alumni members, various awards and certificates were delivered, including the Distinguished Alumni Award, Best Alumni Award of the Batch, Best Contributor Alumni Award, and Innovator of the Year.

Foundation of Comfort Corner

Student counseling has become a very significant part of educational institutes. Students are confronted with a multitude of obligations, professional relationships, and emotional volatility. In such circumstances, a student counseling center is very much required. Keeping this into consideration, our Department of Psychology has developed the Comfort Corner, a student counseling cell. As the name suggests, it provides an empathetic environment, respects the confidentiality of the students, and helps them develop emotional intelligence.

Students of CCE cleared the CDS Written Examination

Akal University’s Centre for Competitive Examination (CCE) facilitates the students by offering qualitative coaching for various government exams such as UPSC, SSC, Bank PO, etc. Recently, the Department of Social Sciences reported that one of their brilliant students, Ms. Aastha, has cleared the written exam for CDS (Combined Defense Services) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. Ms. Aastha said that the environment and facilities offered by the university to prepare for civil services are commendable.

Recruitment Drive

Akal University makes profound efforts to educate its students. The Training and Placement Cell very often hosts placement drives so that students can grab opportunities and excel in their careers. The recent drive featured the HR Department of Akal Academies Baru Sahib and NIIT Limited on behalf of ICICI Bank. More than 100 students from various disciplines have joined the program, demonstrating incredible performance in screening and final interviews.

Advisory Meeting of NSS Unit

The NSS Unit of Akal University is proactively engaged in several activities that can have a positive impact on society. To evaluate the workings of the NSS Cell and polish its service delivery, a recent NSS advisory meeting was hosted on our university premises. Regional Director Mrs. Harinder Kaur, SNO Punjab, Mrs. Rupinder Kaur, and representatives from Asara NGO joined the meeting. Dr. Janpreet Singh, NSS Coordinator, represented the detailed implications of events conducted by NSS and also shared the future possibilities for working for the welfare of humanity.

Establishment of a Digital Library

The Department of Library and Information Sciences led the establishment of a digital library featuring more than 40 advanced computers with high-tech servers. With the easier accessibility of 24/7 high-speed internet, students can avail of digital academic resources such as journals, research papers, e-books, etc. at their convenience. The head of the Department of Library, Mr. Shahzeb Hasan, reported that the recent installation of a digital library will aid users in enriching their knowledge base and gaining cutting-edge experience with the use of digital library services. It will help to bridge the accessibility gap and almost eliminate the financial restraint on them.
