Inside Akal University’s Linguistic Lab

The Linguistic Lab offered by the Department of English Studies is equipped with the latest software and hardware tools and technologies.  Students are excelling in language acquisition with the assistance of expert guidance. Courses provided at the graduate and postgraduate levels are meant for the skill enhancement of the students. Experiential learning with the help of hands-on experience is accelerating the linguistic competency of the students.

The phonetics course has been designed from basics to advanced level. Dr. Shamsudheen MK, Assistant Professor, Department of English Studies provides his expert guidance to ease the understanding of language studies of the students. 

 Objectives of the Linguistic Lab

• To train the students in gaining theoretical perspectives on speech communication at various levels.
• To provide analytical skills in speech organization skills and technical aspects of articulatory phonetics.
• To teach students to comprehend phonetics transcription and learn the art of reading dictionaries and differential pronunciation.
• The aim is to introduce the students to a framework of scientific investigation of the speech sciences of the speech sciences. 
• To introduce the students to the latest software to assist their language learning process. 
• To develop an understanding of the nature of language study through a scientific and analytical approach.

At the end of the semester systematic evaluation is done by the external examiner. Students delivered wonderful performances because of the concept clarity they had regarding the subject matter.

Linguistic Lab is a center where students’ inclination towards polishing their linguistic abilities can excel. The inculcation of modern software and hardware tools is helping the students to understand the technicalities involved with phonetics with ease. “We assure the holistic development of our students by giving exposure to the cutting edge technologies” Dr. Lois Jose, Head, Department of English Studies. Students are giving exceptional responses towards lab experience.
