We bid farewell to March with happy faces, as it gave us memorable experiences. We celebrated Women’s Day, attended a workshop on cloud computing, excitedly participated in an athlete meet, adventured in the science fair, and put one more step ahead in building an inclusive and empathetic society through Physiotherapy camp. Workshop on Cloud Computing

Our Department of Computer Science and Engineering is highly competent in equipping the students with the latest tools and technologies. The One-Week Programme on Cloud Computing, available online through the Zoom platform, was completed successfully. It was a joint of the CSE Department, EICT Academy, and IIT Kanpur. Mr. Mudit Mathur, RCPL outreach partner at IIT Kanpur, shared his expertise with students as a resource person. The training program focused on enhancing their understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other fields of cloud computing.

Commemorating International Women’s Day

In collaboration with various departments, Akal University’s Women Cell organized a series of events. These included speech competitions, the release of a wall magazine, webinars, and more. The education department unveiled its wall magazine 5.0, commemorating International Women’s Day. The Department of Economics hosted a webinar entitled “Women Entrepreneur in 21st Century” by Associate Professor J.K Verma from Central University of Kashmir.

Poem Recitation Competition

The Department of Shri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS) and Bhai Bhagat Singh Matwala Trust jointly hosted a poetry competition dedicated to Bhai Bhagat Singh Matwala. Poems were also selected from his book, “Mera Sikhi Sidak.” Our honorable registrar, Professor Sukhjeet Singh, and Trust Chief, Dr. Rajinder Singh, attended the event. They are also given cash prizes to encourage students to participate in such events.

Science Fair 2024

Science Fair 2024 was initiated by the Department of Chemistry Akal University with the support of the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST) as the State Nodal Agency, National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology (DST) Government of India, and Indian Science Congress Association (Patiala Chapter). Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Head of the Chemistry Department, coordinated the event. The event was joined by the eminent personalities from the field. Students of other colleges and universities participated in various activities such as model making, poster making, science and technology quizzes, and treasure photography.

Commercians 3.0

The Department of Commerce, in collaboration with Dr. Man Mohan Singh Business Club, has organized Commercians 3.0. The event aimed to enhance the students’ organizing skills and promote peer learning. It was a melting pot of activities such as a model museum, presentations, role-play, and food delight. Almost 200 students from different departments visited the event and shared their wonderful feedback. The most eye-catching event in the fest was the guest item play Sardarni Kirpal Kaur (Scars of 1947).

 A One-day Workshop on Tie and Dye and Fabric Paintings

The Department of Education organized a one-day workshop on tie and dye fabric painting under the guidance of Dr. Jasveer Kaur, assistant professor. The event was a blend of traditional craftsmanship with modern ideas. This event also makes us celebrate the extreme potential of ancient India’s textile industry. Students participated very enthusiastically in the event.

Athletic Meet 2024

The Sixth edition of the Athletic Meet went exceptionally well with the continuous efforts of our Sports Cell and DSW Office. The event advertised numerous games such as cricket, basketball, volleyball, tug of war, triple jump, long jump, 100 and 200 mt race, relay race, discus throw, shot put, etc. All the games were held under the instruction of Mr. Sarbjeet Singh, Coach, Akal Academy, Damdama Sahib. Varinder Singh, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, secured the award for best athlete boys, and the best athlete girl goes to Jashanpreet Kaur from the Department of Punjabi.

Fest at the Department of Economics

The Department of Economics has celebrated Economics Day by hosting a series of activities under the headship of Dr. Parveen Rani. Almost 150 students from various institutes joined the event. The display of models on the blue economy, various sectors of the economy, and the evolution of the rupee was captivating. There was an inter-university/college quiz competition. Food stalls and fruit juice corners attracted visitors.

 

Attending Live Address by Honorable Prime Minister

As part of the Viksit Bharat Campaign, the Honorable Prime Minister of India addressed the youth on the topic “India’s Techade Chips for Viksit Bharat.” Mr. Muzzamil Khan, an Assistant Professor, also addressed the students and esteemed dignitaries. The Prime Minister emphasized the role of youth in making India develop by 2047 and the role of the semiconductor and electronics industry in transforming India.

Physiotherapy Camp at Village Bhagi Bandar

The Department of Physiotherapy and the Dean Student Welfare Office jointly organized a physiotherapy health camp under Viksit Bharat Abhiyan at Gurudwara Sahib, Village Bhagi Bandar, Bathinda. The camp targeted females aged 50-80 suffering from musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardio-respiratory issues. Dr. Navjot Kaur, Dr. Ankita Saraswat, and their team coordinated the camp.

Celebrating Pie Day

The Matrix Society of the Department of Mathematics wonderfully celebrated Pie Day. Dr. Sukhpreet Kaur shared the event outline with the attendees. Dr. Sachin Kumar, Associate Professor, Central of Punjab, shared his views on “exploring the wonders of the pie.” The Head of the Department, Dr. Sandeep Singh, congratulated the entire organizing crew and students for their active participation.

Completion of the Twenty-day Workshop

The event organizers, Dr. Jaswinder Kaur and Mr. Sukhdeep Singh congratulated the participants for successfully concluding the twenty-day workshop dedicated to International Mother’s Language Day from 21 February to 21 March. The event aimed to improve the students’ language skills. On the last day of the workshop, all the attendees received a certificate of participation.

Symposium on the Life and Journey of Shaheed Bhagat Singh

NSS Unit III and DSW Office organized a student symposium on the lives and journeys of Sheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru. Almost 20 students from various departments shared their views. On this day, a cycle rally was also organized. Dr. Sandeep Singh (DSW) and Dr. Janpreet Singh (NSS Coordinator) coordinated the event.

Establishment of Herbal Garden

The Department of Botany’s establishment of the herbal garden in Akal Campus shows its commitment to promoting biodiversity conservation and environmental preservation. The campaign was inaugurated in the esteemed presence of Dean Academic Affairs Major General GS Lamba and coordinated by Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad Wani. The plantation featured 40 different medicinal plants. It was facilitated by a team of experts from Khadoor Sahib, who were presided over by Vir Davinder Singh Ji.

Ideation Workshop at Akal Incubation Center

Akal Incubation Centre (AIC) recently hosted a two-day Ideation workshop to uncover the students’ ingenious ideas. Mr. Jitendra Singh Rajput, who has almost 36 years of experience in Administration, Marketing, and Consultancy Services, chaired the workshop. 15 students from the Commerce, MBA, and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) departments presented their innovative ideas in front of him.

Hands-on Workshop Generative AI Workshop

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, under the direction of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), hosted the “Hands-on Generative AI Workshop.” Mr. Trivikrama, an AI expert from IIT Delhi, was the resource person. Dr. Pardeep Singh Cheema was the event’s convener, and Dr. Upinder Kaur was the co-convener. Almost 200 students attended the comprehensive training workshop by Mr. Trivikrama.

The CSE department also organized a hackathon and Webpage Development competition. 100 students from all departments participated in the event.

March offered us enriching experiences as part of such diverse events and workshops. It showcased our testament towards learning new skills, commitment towards the environment, fostering research and innovation, and displaying allegiance towards sports in promoting a sense of community and belongingness. We are looking forward to more vibrant events in the upcoming months.
