This is a story of the hard work and resilience of a girl from the village of Punjab who, with her determination and hard work, secured the Young Scientist Award.
From an agricultural background, Dr. Komalpreet Kaur, who hails from Village Banian, Tehsil Baba Bakala, District Amritsar, Punjab, has always dreamt of achieving success and becoming financially independent.
Even though access to education has increased, she faced transportation challenges during her schooling and had to rely on a bicycle to attend classes. Despite struggling with the problems pursuing her career, she firmly believed that all this would be paid off one day.
She graduated from S.R. Govt. College for Women, Amritsar, in 2014. She then did M.Sc. Zoology from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. In 2020, she submitted her Ph.D. from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, under “Eucalyptus oil-based hybrid nanoemulsions as larvicidal agents against Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus).”
Securing her doctorate was a dream come true for her. Her parents were proud of her, as they were now addressed as Dr. Komalpreet Kaur’s parents. They were on cloud nine when she was honored with the Young Scientist Award.
She was recently awarded the Young Scientist Award at the 27th Punjab Science Congress, which was held from 7 to 9 February 2024 at Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, under the patronage of the Punjab Academy of Sciences.
Her scholarly personality has earned her national and international recognition, a matter of great pride. She worked as a Senior Research Fellow in a project entitled “Institutional Development Plan (IDP) for Improved Learning Outcome, Skill and Entrepreneurship at GADVASU” funded by ICAR (Indian Council of Agriculture Research) and World Bank. She was engaged in the All India Network Project on Rodent Control at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Currently, she is working as an Assistant Professor of Zoology and also serving as the Head of the Department of Medical Sciences at Akal University.
Research Field Specialization and Publication
Dr. Komalpreet has earned expertise in Zoology (Vertebrate Pest Management and Parasitology-Vector Control). Her enthusiasm for the research field emerged during her degree period. She did a master’s research entitled “Growth and Breeding Biology of Tatera Indica” concerning its management practices. Acknowledging her immense potential, various reputed publication agencies approached her for publication.

Honored with National Travel Grant-2019 by Gurdev Singh Khush Foundation for Advancement of Agricultural Sciences.
Conferred with the SOVE (Indian Region) Young Scientist Award (Woman) by the Society for Vector Ecology, India, during the 2nd International Conference of SOVE at APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium, JIPMER Campus at Puducherry.
