Three-Day National Virtual Workshop on Research Methodology and Research Trends in Literary Research

Research methodology is the cornerstone of academic research and innovation. The Department of English Studies organized a three-day virtual workshop to furnish scholars and researchers with the requisite tools, knowledge and insights.
The workshop was on August 9-11, 2023 in a virtual mode. The workshop focused on research proficiency and the latest advancements in literary research.

Akal University is committed to the field of research. That is why the University arranges such events frequently. And Department of English Studies is dedicated to ensure advancements in the field of literature, linguistics, and research, and publication fields. The Department of English Studies, under the capable leadership of the Head of the Department, is at the forefront of ensuring advancements in literature, linguistics, and research.

Objectives of the Workshop

  • Enhancing Research Proficiency: Providing participants with comprehensive knowledge and skills to enhance their research proficiency in the field of literary research.
  • Exploring the Latest Trends: Exposing participants to the latest trends and advancements in literary research.
  • Applied Linguistics: Understanding research trends in Applied Linguistics.
  • AI in Research: Imparting essential awareness of the latest developments, including AI in research.
  • Inspiring Scholarly Excellence: Motivating participants to pursue scholarly excellence in their respective fields.

Day 1: Research Methodology and Applied Linguistics

From Ideas to Methodologies

The first day of the workshop emphasized the significance of research proficiency in literary research. The session handled by Prof. Mohammad Asim Siddiqui from the Department of English, at Aligarh Muslim University. He dealt with a core area of the workshop- “Research Methodology in Literature”. Prof. Siddiqui delved into the details of research idea, literature review, paper presentation, and distinctive methodologies. In the second half, Prof. P Bhaskaran Nair who is the editor of The Journal of ELTIF focused on the topic “Research in Applied Linguistics”. Prof. Nair shared his insight on Language, Culture, and Cognition.

Day 2: Current Literary Trends and Literature Review

Trends and Reviews

Participants inquired into the exciting realm of recent trends in literary research. The sessions covered new happenings in academic and study areas. They unfolded the multidisciplinary and integrative approaches. And the next morning session was managed by Prof. Pramod K. Nair, UNESCO Chair in the Vulnerability Studies Department of English, University of Hyderabad. He explored on the topic of Current Trends in Literary Research: The Environmental Humanities. Prof. PK Nair concentrated on the emerging study areas such as Science of Climate Change, Extinction, Demographic Destitution, Multispecies Ethnography etc. In the afternoon session, Comprehensive Literary Review by Dr. Vipan Pal Singh. He is an eminent Associate Professor at the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, Department of English, School of Language, Literature, and Culture. He surveyed the other pertinent areas of this research field.

Day 3: Academic Publication and Artificial Intelligence

The Future of Research

Dr. Neepa Sarkar, former Assistant Professor at Mount Carmel College will handle the topic- Academic Publishing: Focus on Humanities. Dr. Neepa delivered a magnificent lecture on research from the very beginning to advance level. She gave a thought on major research challenges, plagiarism, ethical rights of the participants of research etc. The latter half of the day featured Prof. Omar Frook, Department of Electronics Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University. The challenging and ethical considerations associated with utilizing AI in research also addressed, encouraging participants to critically evaluate the implications of AI applications in their work.

An Enriching Journey

Akal University’s three-day national virtual workshop on research methodology and recent trends in literary research provided an enriching experience to the attendees . Distinguished academicians will impart their valuable insights, fostering a comprehensive understanding of AI and its opportunities and challenges in the field of academic research. Additionally, all the participants received certificates of participation for their active engagement in the workshop. Department of English Studies is looking forward to conduct such insightful events in future also.
