Sports offer countless advantages and all the stakeholders involved in it, get benefitted. Our Sports Cell hits the organization of a sixth edition of athletic meet which includes various sports. The event was accomplished under the instruction of Dr. Sandeep Singh, Dean of Student Welfare.
Promoting Community Engagement
Sports events are the best platform to foster a sense of community and belongingness among individuals. The Sixth Athletic Meet is an inter-departmental program and strikes the gathering of students from all the departments. Students delivered wonderful performances as a result of their long preparations and training. The event also promoted personal development, and peer learning, and also enhanced their self-esteem.
Oath Ceremony Led by NCC Unit
The event began with the oath ceremony and all the participants gathered on the ground and took oath to remain committed to the spirit of sportsmanship. The event began with the hosting of the green flag by Major General GS Lamba, Dean of Academic Affairs. Our active and competent NCC Cadets did a march that raised goosebumps among the gathering. Thereafter, honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Gurmail Singh addressed the athletes and motivated them to involve themselves absolutely in the game.
List of Games in the Event
The hosting of the sixth edition of the Athletic Meet featured basketball, volleyball, cricket, tug of war, triple jump, long jump, 100 mt race, 200 mt, discus throw, shot put, relay race, etc. All the games registered remarkable participation at the end of the audience. Mr. Sarbjeet Singh, Akal Academy Coach provided instructions to the participants. The task of stage management was handled by Professor Navsangeet Singh and Dr. Ramandeep Kaur.
Announcing the Winners
Finally, the most awaited moment comes and the ground echoes with the sound of applauses. All the participants were awarded with a certificate of participation. And winners received their shields for the respective games. The Award for Best Athlete Boys goes to Varinder Singh from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Best Athlete Girls goes to Jashanpreet Kaur from the Department of Punjabi. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering claimed an award for the highest and most brilliant performance.
The successful completion of the Sixth Athletic Meet in Akal Campus has opened the door for many more opportunities to come. University takes a firm stand in promoting the connectivity towards the sports among youth. It is a significant part of the curriculum, things students are unable to understand in classrooms can learn in the ground field.
