We feel immense pride in sharing that Dr. Birender Kaur, Assistant Professor at Akal University in the Department of Education, received a Minor Research Project award from the Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE) Gandhinagar, Gujrat.
The project is entitled “Techno-Pedagogical Competence of Pre-Service Teachers: Predictive Role of Cognitive Flexibility and Mindful Attention Awareness.” It is an exceptional achievement for Dr. Birender, Head of the Department of Education.
Initial Journey of Dr.Birender Kaur
Dr.Birender Kaur has a humble background, living in Kotakapura, a city in the Faridkot District of Punjab. She had a strong inclination towards studies since her childhood. Even though resources were not that accessible then, she stood by her studies with the continuous support of her family and teachers. She completed her schooling at Dashmesh Public School in Kotkapura only. She joined Shaheed Bhagat Singh College Kotakapura for her graduation and took admission in M.Ed at Khalsa College. Her pursuit of knowledge always helps her keep going. She completed her Ph.D. at Punjabi University Patiala. In 2017, she was awarded a Ph.D. in Education.
Embarking on the career path
After completing her Ph.D., Dr. Birender embarked on her career trajectory. She worked in the Baba Farid Group of Institutes. In 2018, she joined as an Assistant Professor at Akal University, and since then, she has been working as Head of the Department in the Department of Education.
Dr.Birender worked diligently on several research projects. She is working collaboratively with Ms. Joanna Skelton from Oxford Brookes University. Being a research enthusiast, Dr. Birender has a broad vision that can contribute to society, specifically to the field of education.
About the awarded Research Project
In the modern era, the field of education demands the latest interventions. In fact, after the COVID-19 pandemic, traditional classrooms and technologies were significantly impacted. Research studies demand recurrent findings so that ongoing challenges can be tackled efficiently. Also, teachers need to prepare themselves for 21st-century classrooms.
It is a matter of great pride for Akal University as Dr. Birender has been awarded the research project. This is the minor research project from Punjab conferred to Ms. Birender Kaur. The project is entitled “Techno-Pedagogical Competence of Pre-Service Teachers: Predictive Role of Cognitive Flexibility and Mindful Attention Awareness.” It is awarded under Namo Mathrubhumi Mission Shardam Projects announced by the Centre of Research, Indian Institute of Teacher Education, Gandhinagar, Gujrat. The grant sanctioned for the project is 2,50,000.
The study will embrace the techno-pedagogical competencies of pre-service teachers. The study’s findings will further assist policymakers and teacher educational institutions in understanding traits that must be understood in teacher preparation programs.

She said being a woman means many difficulties, but destiny will help us reach our destination if we keep going. Despite our failures and challenges, hard work, consistency, and perseverance are required.
