Akal University’s September Stories – The month that was! TMTW-Sep23

Come September, and it was a promise of a busy and exciting month! As the autumn breeze swept through the campus, it carried with it a medley of conferences, workshops, and celebrations that kept the spirit of learning and innovation alive. Here are some major highlights, and milestones achieved.

Awareness Session on Incubation Centre

The month started with a special session at the newly inaugurated Akal Incubation Centre. Students were informed about the significance of the Incubation Centre and how it  will it give thrust to the young talent and innovation. The program endorsed the flagship program of the Government of India entitled ‘ATAL Incubation Centres.’ The resource person in the event was Dr. GS Lamba, Dean of Academic Affairs. He elaborated on how the incubation center will provide a conducive environment for the growth of entrepreneurial spirit. 

International Conference on Recent Advances on Green and Sustainable Developments (ICRAGSD-2023)

Akal University’s Green Chemistry Network Center Chapter organized a three-day International Conference on Recent Advances on Green and Sustainable Developments (ICRAGSD-2023) in a hybrid mode. The three-day event, 6-8 September, registered participation of more than 300 people worldwide. This conference was part of the Central Jubilee Year Celebration (Shatabdi Mahotsav) of the Indian Chemical Society, Kolkata. 

Celebrating Physiotherapy Day

The Department of Physiotherapy conducted a lecture cum demonstration session on disaster management. It was delivered by the 7th Battalion National Disaster Response Team headed by Training Officer Inspector Vipin Kumar Tiwari.
The primary object of the program is to demonstrate the role of physiotherapists in minimizing the adverse impacts of disasters and establishing rehabilitation. Event convener Dr. Navjot Kaur (Physiotherapist) reported the participation of almost 70 students from the Department of Physiotherapy, NCC, and NSS.

Faculty Development Workshop

A Faculty Development Workshop on “Attainment of Course Outcomes” was conducted to perpetuate the growth and development of the university’s stakeholders. It was initiated by the Department of Education on 11 September. Dr. Birender Kaur, event convener, informed participation of 28 department faculty members. Dr. Monisha Dhimon, Professor Department of Microbiology, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, was the spokesperson in the workshop.

Two-Day Skill Building Program

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering hosted the scheduled Skill Building Program on 14 September.
This program is further divided into four different areas:
Content Writing, App Development, Website Development, and Artificial Intelligence. It was graced by an SEO expert and consultant renowned for his expertise in the digital domain. The head of the Department, Dr. Upinder Kaur, reported the successful completion of the program.

Tech Fest-2023 on Engineering Day

On 15th September, on the occasion of Engineering Day, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized the ‘Tech Fest’. The event featured expert talks, presentations, model exhibitions, and fun, exciting games.
Sadaf, a student in BCA 2nd year, presented his web development project, an e-commerce full-stack live website.
After that, Divya Soni, a B.tech final year student, projected her BMI app.
The model exhibition included an innovative entrance system, an intelligent parking system, self-driving cars, and an agriculture system.

International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer

On 16th September, the Department of Education hosted a Model Making Competition, as the entire globe is celebrating this day with the theme “Montreal Protocol: Fixing the Ozone Layer and Reducing Climate Change.” It was an inter-departmental program with registered active participation. It was aimed at raising awareness about the role of individuals in preventing ozone depletion. 

Educational Visit to Bio CNG Plant

Department of Computer Science and Engineering hosted an educational visit to the Bio CNG Plant, Bhutal Kalan, Sangrur. Students were accompanied by  Dr. Navroop Kaur, Dr. Parneet Kaur, and Dr. Parveen Kumar. The objective was to educate students about sustainable agricultural practices and agricultural waste management. They learned how to convert stubble into gas and other mechanical techniques to manage agricultural waste.

National Workshop on Analyzing Mathematical Data Using R

The Department of Mathematics organized a National Workshop on  ‘Analyzing Mathematical Data Using R’ on September 22nd. It was graced with the presence of Professor Shalabh, Dean of Academic Affairs at IIT Kanpur, and Professor of Statistics in the Department of Mathematics. The workshop made students familiar with the latest data analysis tools and techniques. 

QUIZ COUSTEAU-2023 on International Literacy Day

On the eve of International Literacy Day, the Department of Commerce conducted a quiz competition, “QUIZ COUSTEAU-2023”.

It was an inter-departmental event, so students from all the departments excitedly participated in the quiz competition. Almost 50 students participated, and 20 teams were shortlisted. The program aimed to educate the students about the business world. To develop their interest in marketing, business management, modern technology, and general commercial knowledge.
The first position was scored by Team’ Snappy Solvers’ with the students Impreet Kaur, Mannandeep Kaur, and Kashish. The second position was awarded to a team called ‘The Brainy Bunch,’ Answers Avengers secured 3rd position.

NSS Foundation Day Celebration

24 September is celebrated as NSS Day, and Akal University’s NSS Unit celebrates it with a series of events. It included the Declamation Competition ‘YUVA SAMVAD-INDIA @2047‘.
The Poster making Competition, Expert Session on Fitness Awareness, and Free Medical Checkups were significant celebration highlights. On 29th September, Mega Cleanliness Drive under the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign’ was conducted in the village Kot Shamir.
