The month of October was graced with great enthusiasm and infinite learning. It was a month of empathy, compassion, connection, and social responsibility. It began with enriching workshops and expert sessions on empathetic community initiatives. The month reflected our determined commitment to the comprehensive development of our students. Following are the glimpses of the events that made this month remarkably memorable.

Serving the Humanity with Donating Blood

Aiming to foster a spirit of community service among youth, Akal University’s NSS Cell and Red Ribbon Club conducted a Blood Donation Camp in association with Civil Hospital, Bathinda. Undoubtedly, such camps would offer the critical healthcare requirements to those who need it and can impart a sense of civic responsibility among the potential donors.

The camp turned out a visible success with 53 units of blood donation. Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Gurmail Singh appreciated the incredible participation at the end of the students.

Inter-University Indoor Competitions

Eight esteemed colleges joined our campus to demonstrate their talent in Indoor Games. This was a blend of building networking opportunities and promoting sportsmanship. Student life encompasses hectic schedules, and stressful daily routines and this initiative was a refreshing stimulus for them. Chess and carrom, both the tournaments completed with exceptional participation.

Samvedna: Promoting Compassion and Empathy

According to the State of the World’s Children Report, 13% of people between the ages of 10 and 19 are diagnosed with mental health disorders. This matter requires great attention and support from all of us to help people come out of the complex trap of mental illness. The recent event Samvedna, organized by the Department of Psychology to commemorate World Mental Health Day, was accomplished with the remarkable participation of students and faculty members.

Their presence at the event demonstrated their unwavering commitment to promoting a compassionate and inclusive society. It covered various activities including plays, psychological assessments, book corners, and food delights. This initiative not only highlighted the significance of mental health but also fostered a sense of cohesion among attendees.

Workshop on Metaverse

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized Alumni Interaction cum Workshop on the Metaverse. Our B.Tech alumni Sachin Pandey, a Metaverse Developer at Digital Labs, a UK-based MNC, executed this workshop.

Students delved into the world of virtual reality which opened an emerging domain in the field of technology. The event registered the participation of more than 250 students from CSE.

Celebrating Military Adventures of Our Country

NCC Cell of our university hosted an engaging event to celebrate the military adventures of our country. The event explored the two pivotal chapters namely, the Kargil War and General Zorawar Singh. This event successfully engaged students to dive into the enriched military history of India. Their hearts filled with immersive pride when they surveyed the military adventures of our extremely talented and brave military commanders.

First-Aid Kit Distribution

The Red Ribbon Club introduced a thoughtful initiative by distributing First Aid Kits to students and staff members. This distribution was led by Red Ribbon Club Coordinator Dr. Navjot Kaur (PT), Dr. Birender Kaur, and Dr. Tajamul Islam Program Officers. This effort was aimed at assuring safety measures and promoting immediate medical assistance on the university campus.

Empowering Abilities: Punjab Para Sports Awareness Event

The Department of Physiotherapy in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club organized the awareness workshop on Para Sports. The primary goal of this workshop was to foster an understanding of para-sports and educate them regarding the critical role of physiotherapy in the realm of para-sports.

The event was graced by Mr. Jaspreet Singh, Secretary of the Punjab Para Sports Association (PPSA). He shared his insights on the association’s prominent role in promoting para-sports at the state level. Dr. Lakshmi and Dr.Navjot Singh, Chief Classifiers provided expert knowledge on the classification process of para sports.

Students Excelled in UGC Net Result

We are proud to celebrate the noteworthy achievement of our students who have successfully cleared the renowned NET (National Eligibility Test) Examination. These breakthrough achievements reflect immense efforts, hard work, dedication, also effective mentorship, and continuous support from the faculty members. Clearing the NET Examination empowers the students to pursue their research field and explore different avenues of academics.

Celebrating Physics Scholar Ms. Manpreet Kaur’s Achievement

Ms. Manpreet Kaur, Research Scholar, Department of Physics at Akal University Talwandi Sabo, has been attending the 11th International Conference on Nuclear Physics at Storage Rings (STORI’24) at the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Huizhou, Guangdong, China. Ms. Kaur will present her research paper, “Signature Splitting in Three Quasi Particle Rotational Bands of Odd-A Nuclei”. The conference is scheduled from 18 to 22 November 2024. She has been awarded the prestigious Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), DST travel support of (INR 1.5 lakhs), and Financial Support (INR 48,000) provided by the conference organizers.

Webinar on Gandhian Thought in Contemporary Times

Our Department of Social Science in collaboration with the Department of MDS organized an enlightening webinar entitled “Relevance of Gandhian Thought in Contemporary Times”.

The webinar was presided over by eminent Professor Dr. Aslam Khan from the Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies of Mahatma Gandhi, Central University, Bihar. The insightful discussion was followed by a question-and-answer session.

Inspiring Expert Talk by CSE and TPO

Our university’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering in collaboration with the Training and Placement Office (TPO) hosted an expert talk. The expert session was featured with Col. Urvinder Singh, a renowned TEDx speaker. The major highlights of his interaction were character building, skill enhancement, goal setting, and building a positive attitude towards life. There were more than 200 participants who actively attended the expert talk.

Educational Trip to Old Age Home

To instill values of compassion, empathy, and belongingness among the students, the Department of Psychology organized a visit to Aasra Old Age Home, Maur Mandi, Bathinda. This Old Age Home was founded by Dr. Yadwinder Singh under the Malwa Mission in 2010. This heartwarming visit filled the hearts of residents with warmth and love. The major objective of this visit was to equip the students with essential counseling skills and assist them in developing a good understanding of geriatric psychology.

Looking back at October’s accomplishments demonstrates our university’s progressive academic standing. The array of activities including blood donation camp, expert interactions, and various competitions have brought the university community closer. We look forward to even more refreshing and enthusiastic endeavors in the upcoming November.
