TMTW 2024 September: Celebrating the Excellence

This September, we achieved academic milestones. Vibrant events were organized that highlighted our commitment to excellence. These included events that promoted environmental awareness, enhanced community services, and celebrated technological advancements. Following are glimpses of the events.

Webinar on Disaster Management

Two-day Enlightening Webinar on Disaster Management chaired by esteemed Professor Vinod Kumar Sharma, Senior Professor and Consultant at the Indian Institute of Public Administration. Professor Sharma who also serves as the Vice Chairman of Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority discussed essential phases of the disaster management cycle including preparedness, mitigation, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. There were 80 participants from the NCC, NSS, and Physiotherapy departments actively participated in this event.

Workshop on Nuclear Spectrometry

Our Department of Physics has successfully hosted a two-day National Workshop on Nuclear Spectrometry scheduled for 23-24 September 2024. The event featured lectures and hands-on sessions led by eminent experts Professor Sarabjit Singh from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and Dr. P.K. Joshi from Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). The workshop on Nuclear Spectrometry covered a variety of topics including Gamma spectrometry techniques, advanced instrumentation, introduction to radioactivity, radioactive decay processes, principles of gamma-ray spectrometry, spectral data analysis, error analysis, and spectral interference.

Power Point Competition by Akal Business School

Akal Business School organized a PowerPoint competition to cultivate the use of the latest tools and technology among students. 13 teams from the Department of Management and Commerce participated in the contest.

The event promoted cutting-edge innovations and nurtured technical skills. Dr. Suraj Verma and Dr. Muzzamil Rehman coordinated the event. All the participants received e-certificates and winners were awarded.

International Conference on Green Catalysis and Drug Discovery (ICRAGCDD-2024)

The International Conference on Green Catalysis and Drug Discovery has been organized by the Green Chemistry Centre Chapter Akal University in association with the Green Chemistry Network Centre, DU, Indian Chemical Society, Eternal University; Baru Sahib, Current Green Chemistry, and De Gruyter Publisher, Germany, etc.

This conference registered the participation of 342 people from various corners of the world. 98 faculties from various premier institutions delivered lectures on diverse aspects of Green Chemistry.

Ozone Day Celebration

To raise awareness about environment conservation, we celebrated Ozone Day with the theme “Advancing Climate Actions”. Participants from various departments showcased their talent in a poster-making competition.

The event fosters the crucial role of the ozone layer which prevents us from harmful ultraviolet rays. Students and faculty members also discussed how positive human intervention can assist in mitigating climate change.

Mr. Shahzeb Hasan Excels in the Research Field

Mr. Shahzeb Hasan, Head of Central Library, Akal University is attending the 27th International Symposium on Electric Theses and Dissertations (ETD-2024) in Livingstone, Zambia. He has been awarded a partial travel grant by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD). He is contributing to the conference with his substantial research paper entitled “Future-Proofing Research by Long-term ETD Preservation Challenges and Opportunities”.

Techno Utsav-2024

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering worked ceaselessly to arrange this year’s Techno Utsav successfully. Students reflected their talent and potential by skillfully organizing competitions, exhibitions, etc.

The major highlight of the event was an expert session chaired by Dr. Deepak Kapoor, a Data Scientist from Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and Environment, Government of Punjab shared his invaluable insights into the world of data science and its evolving applications.

NSS Activities

Our NSS Cell organized arrays of activities dedicated to The Swachata Hi Seva (SHS) Campaign initiated by the National Service Scheme (NSS).

It included a Cleanliness Drive near university premises, a poster-making competition, and a Mega Cleanliness Drive. NSS Unit VII celebrated International Sign Languages to promote inclusivity and connection. Akal University has become a wonderful platform where community participation has been encouraged.

Webinar on Monetary Policy Dynamics

The Department of Economics organized a webinar entitled “Monetary Policy Dynamics: Theory, Practice, and Emerging Challenges”. The event was chaired by Mr. Tanveer Ahmad Khan (IES), Assistant Director at the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

Mr. Khan shared his extensive experience and elaborated on the theoretical framework of India’s Monetary Policy and also discussed its emerging challenges.

Incredible Achievement of Dr. Bubun Banerjee

Our university proudly announces that Dr. Bubun Banerjee, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Centre for Green Chemistry, Akal University has been remarkably recognized among the World’s Top 2% of Scientists 2024. This has been the 4th consecutive year that his name has been spotlighted for impactful research findings. Banerjee has published 130 research/review articles on Green and Sustainable Development in different Scopus/SCI Index Journals. Along with these high-impact journals, he also took charge of publishing 20 books. Recently, he also co-edited 16 books published by De Gruyter, Germany.

Hospital Visit by the Department of Physiotherapy

The hands-on experience exposes students to tackling real-life problems and they become efficient decision-makers. Akal University always fosters practical education and a recent hospital visit organized by the Department of Physiotherapy is a testament to this. Students visited the gynecology and maternity ward, where they saw the labor room, sterilization, and autoclave machines.

They also visited the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where various protocols were displayed to stabilize patients with respiratory problems, road traffic accidents, and cardiac problems.

International Translation Day Celebration

The Department of English Studies celebrated International Translation Day. A series of Translation-based multilingual games were organized by the students, to explore the significance of translation methods in daily life. The students introduced a set of interesting interdepartmental games, including Obstacle Race, Translation Telephone, Verba Vista, Idiom Master, Interesting Idol, and Dictionary Dive. More than 120 students and faculty members from various departments excitedly participated in the event.
