This blog highlights key activities, including the International Conference, Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights, Professional Development Program, and Gurmat Smagam. Celebrating Constitution Day marked our commitment to inculcating democratic values in students.

Celebrating 556th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji

In honour of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 556th birth anniversary, our campus was infused with the pure spirit of the Gurmat Smagam. The festivities included Prabhat Pheris and a large Nagar Kirtan, which began at the university and travelled through adjacent villages, conveying messages of peace and harmony. The event was concluded with the revered Akhand Path Sahib, which fostered a sense of togetherness and spiritual dedication.

Enlightening Expert Talk on Formal, Informal and Property Rights Institutions and Economics Development

Akal University’s Department of Economics has recently organized an expert session on “Formal, Informal and Property Rights Institutions and Economics Development”. The session was organized by Dr. Ishfaq Hamid, who gave a cordial welcome and set the tone for the event while discussing the theme of the talk. Professor Bikash Ranjan Mishra of NIT, Rourkela, Odisha, India, chaired an insightful expert talk. The expert talk served as the best platform to explore the multi-dimensional aspects of these institutions.

Expert Session by Ms. Tina Ahluwalia

In the series of insightful expert talks, Akal Business School has added one more prominent name, Ms. Ahluwalia. She addressed the audience with her enlightening views on Women in Leadership. Ms. Ahluwalia currently serves as the Director of Operations at Winpe. She is the Regional Director – India for Blu Maritime Consultancy Pte. Ltd. Ms. Ahluwalia is not only recognized for her business leadership but is also a certified valuation specialist. As a certified valuation specialist and an IICA Certified Independent Director, Ms. Ahluwalia brings depth and breadth of experience in strategic leadership and governance.

Ms Sumandeep Kaur Acquires Highest NCC Rank

Sumandeep Kaur, a final year student in the Department of Psychology, has been awarded the prestigious rank of Senior Under Officer (20 PB BN) by the Commanding Officer in Bathinda. She has been working hard and remained resilient towards all the challenges. With an incredible achievement, she has become an inspiration for many girls.

Personality Development Program (CSE)

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has hosted a Personality Development Program from October 7 to November 5, 2024. The five-week-long program aimed at enhancing the student capabilities in domains like aptitude, quantitative reasoning, soft skills, and group discussions. The event was a collaborative initiative of Akal University and Trinity Group Chandigarh.

Mr Ankur Malhotra and, Ms Amrita Sodhi from Trinity Group, Mr Sony Goyal from IIT Ahmedabad played a critical role in making this program a resounding success. The event was coordinated by Mr Malik Muzamil and Ms Sandeep Kaur from the Training and Placement Office at Akal University.

Celebrating Rich Cultural Heritage with Pendu Khed Mela

The Pendu Khed Mela, hosted by Akal University’s Dean Student Welfare Office, was a celebration of our rich cultural heritage. The event, which featured the demonstration of various traditional games and the display of antique art and craft pieces, was a testament to the vibrancy and diversity of our history. It provided a unique opportunity for our community to connect with and appreciate our cultural roots.

Workshop on Enhancing Pedagogies: Teaching Strategies and Learning Resources

Akal University’s Department of Education has organized a one-day workshop on “Enhancing Pedagogies: Teaching Strategies and Learning Resources”. The event featured Dr. Kusum Lata Narula, a renowned educator and national and state-level award winner, as the resource person. The workshop aimed to equip young educators with innovative teaching strategies, effective resource utilization, and an interactive learning environment.

Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Engineering, in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Management and Commercialization (IPMCC) and Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), organized a two-day workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights”. The event was accomplished with the immense support of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The workshop featured expert talks, a quiz competition, a poster-making competition, and a presentation contest.

Raising the Awareness about Drug Abuse

In collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club (RRC), Akal University’s Department of Psychology hosted a webinar entitled “Breaking Chains: A Guide to Substance Abuse Awareness and Prevention”. The webinar featured esteemed Professor Dr. S.K. Tripathi, Head of the Department of Psychology at Adesh University, Punjab. Her presentations focused on various aspects of substance abuse, including understanding substance abuse definitions, causes, and psychological impacts, prevention strategies, de-addiction, rehabilitation, and the role of guidance and counseling.

Expert Talk on Managing Test Anxiety

Akal University’s Department of Psychology has organized an insightful session on Managing Test Anxiety and Effective Study Techniques. The session aimed at equipping students with the combat strategies to manage stress and anxiety and to enhance overall academic performance. The event was headed by Ms Preet Kiran Sekhon, who has expertise in counselling psychology and stress management. Her lectures stressed the issues faced by the students and emphasized the physiological and psychological aspects of test anxiety. Ms. Sekhon shared the coping mechanisms to manage the anxiety issues.

International Conference on Development of Pure and Applied Mathematics

The three-day International Conference (ICEPAM-24), a collaborative effort of the Department of Mathematics, Akal University, and Eternal University, Baru Sahib, was a significant event. Sponsored by Binary Semantics, Maple Soft, and Infostudy, and financed by the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM), the conference saw 400 delegates presenting their papers. The 35 lectures delivered by prominent personalities from 20 countries worldwide provided a wealth of knowledge and insights, making it a truly enlightening experience for all involved.

Insightful Webinar on Career Opportunities

Our Social Science Department took the initiative of organizing a webinar on Employability and Career Options in History with Special Reference to Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) under NEP 2020. The webinar was chaired by Dr. Manu Sharma, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of History at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). Dr. Sharma highlighted the career opportunities available for history graduates, including roles in academia, research, heritage management, and public administration.

Celebrating Constitution Day

Our Department of Social Science, in association with Multidisciplinary Sciences, the Centre for Competitive Examination (CCE), and the Central Library, organized a quiz competition to mark the observance of Constitution Day. The event, which saw enthusiastic participation from 12 teams representing various departments, was a fitting tribute to our constitution. The competition was initiated with the reading of the preamble, a powerful reminder of the values and principles that form the foundation of our nation.

 

 

Webinar on Literature and Social Justice

The Department of English Studies hosted a webinar on Literature and Social Justice. It was chaired by Dr Mohammad Asim Siddiqui, Professor of English and former Head of the Department of English at Aligarh Muslim University. More than 100 participants took advantage of the enlightening webinar. While mentioning the incredible works of Mark Twain, Charles Twain, Mulk Raj Anand, and Munshi Premchand, he illustrated his argument that literature brings to light the varied forms of societal injustices.


This month was the academic enrichment, cultural celebration, and civic responsibility union. The International Conference brought academicians, researchers, and scholars from across the globe. Workshops and expert sessions enhanced students’ understanding of different fields. Cultural events helped strengthen social relationships and give a sense of belongingness.
