Capturing the Glimpses of the First Month of 2024 

 The beginning of the new year precedes the significant happenings on the campus. Withstanding academic excellence and commitment to research and innovation, the university connected with the world through international conferences and registered remarkable student and faculty member achievements in January 2024. 

International Conference on Next Generation Digital Technologies (ICNGDT)

Akal University’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, in collaboration with Eternal University, Baru Sahib, and the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, organized the International Conference on Next Generation Digital Technologies (ICNGDT) from 3 to January 5, 2024. The conference featured esteemed personalities across the globe, and Professor Gurpreet Singh Dhillion from the University of North Texas, US, was the guest of Honor. Almost 150 participants joined in the hybrid mode. Research enthusiasts participated in their paper presentations and attended expert sessions, and winners received rewards for their outstanding performance. The international conference explored various fields such as AI, ML, IoT, and CPS. 

 Workshop on Green Chemistry

Akal University’s Green Chemistry Centre Chapter hosted a workshop on green chemistry’s significance and potential advantages. The workshop featured activities such as a model-making competition, poster-making contest, poster presentation, and quiz competition. A total of 100 students from various schools energetically participated in the event. The presence of esteemed experts graced the event. It was a collaborative initiative of Akal University with Green Chemistry Network Centre, Hindu College (University of Delhi) Royal Society of Chemistry, North India Chapter, and Akal Academies (Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh).

Expert Talk on “Unorganized Sector in India-Opportunities and Challenges”

 An expert talk was organized about opportunities and challenges in the unorganized sector in India. Prof. Sandeep Kaur, Dean of Social Sciences, Central University of Punjab, was the keynote speaker at the event. She portrays real-life scenarios in front of the listeners so they can build an intense understanding to address the sector’s challenges. Prof. discussed the growth capability of this sector if it crosses the transformative journey of formalization. 

The Youth Icon Award bestowed on Ms. Zeba Fatima, Assistant Professor, Department of Education

Ms. Zeba Fatima, Assistant Professor at Akal University Talwandi Sabo, was honored with the prestigious Indian Youth Icon Award 2024! 

 The Youth Icon Award is one of the prestigious awards in India. Our university proudly announced this splendid achievement. The Honor was extended at the One-Day International Conference on Recent Advancement in Education, Research, Social Science, Science, and Engineering organized by the International Council for Education, Research, and Training (ICERT), New Delhi.

Celebrating National Youth Day

National Youth Day, also known as Vivekananda Jayanti, falls on January 12. This is the joint initiative of the epartment of Education and Social Sciences. The event was aimed at exploring the life and contribution of Swami Vivekananda. This was to realize the immense potential of the youth, but the requirement is to recognize it.

On this occasion, the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, organized the 27th National Youth Festival (NYF) from 12-16 January 2024 at Nasik Maharashtra. Per the instructions from the Directorate of NSS Chandigarh, a live telecast of the Honorable Prime Minister was screened, and our university’s NSS Cell was arranged for maximum participation by the students.

Webinar on Viksit Bharat@2047: Echoes of the Youth

On January 18, 2024, Retired IAS Officer SK Dwivedi shared his insight regarding the Viksit Bharat campaign. Mr. Dwivedi was serving in Rudraprayag District in Uttarakhand. All the students and those preparing for UPSC joined the webinar to seek guidance. He discussed Amrit Kaal’s Vision 2047 of India and making India a $30 trillion economy till 2047. He elaborated on the indispensable role of youth in making India a developed economy. Mr. Dwivedi discussed the incredible achievements of 2023 in space, power, economy, and other sectors. India is diligently working hard to make itself a developed nation. 

 Celebrating the Birth Anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji

Akal University celebrates the Birth Anniversary of the tenth Sikh Master, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Sri Guru Gobind Singh sacrificed his family to protect the faith. Acknowledging the occasion’s significance, the Department of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji organized and performed the Bhog of Sri Akhand Path and Shabad Kirtan as a tribute.

Webinar on Employment Opportunities and Skill Development

The Department of Commerce, in association with FFOI (Finance Forum of India), conducted an enlightening webinar dedicated to Employment Opportunities and Skill Development. It was presided over by distinguished personality Mr. Nilesh Sarawate. Dr. Parminder Singh, Head of the Department, provided the audience with an outline of the event. Mr. Sarawate gave a detailed discussion on employment-related challenges and counseled the students on how to overcome those challenges.

Celebration of “National Day of Girl Child”

January 24 is celebrated as National Girl Child Day. To address the occasion, the Fine Arts Club of the Department of Education has hosted a poster-making competition. It was a departmental contest, and 18 students demonstrated their talent. Dr. Abdul Haseeb Mir and Ms. Zeba Fatima, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, moderated the event. The themes of the competition were

Alumni Interactive Session

The Department of Commerce organized an alumni interaction session. Dr. Parminder Singh (Head of the Department) and Ms. Harjot Kaur (Alumni Coordinator) arranged an alumni interaction session for the students. The session was dedicated to GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) preparation strategies. Rasleen Kaur, Alumna of Akal University, was the speaker of the talk and elaborated on various sections of the GMAT-Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA), Integrated Reasoning (IR), Quantitative Reasoning, and Verbal Reasoning. She shared her preparation journey and how she overcame challenges.

 National Voters Day Celebration

National Voters Day is celebrated on January 25 to mark the foundation day of India’s Election Commission. Akal University commemorates this day to raise awareness among students to exercise their right to cast a vote actively.

Celebration of Republic Day

Celebrating India’s 75th Independence Day, Akal University took an enthusiastic lead while demonstrating its responsibility towards the nation. Honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor unfurled the national flag. He shared his insight regarding the significance of withholding constitutional values, discussed India’s recently achieved milestones in various ways, and elaborated on its growth trajectory. The event was graced by Professor Sukhjeet Singh, Registrar, and Major Gen. GS Lamba, Dean of Academic Affairs. The event management was handled by NCC and NSS cadets. 

Students performed remarkably in the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET)

 The Union Grants Commission (UGC) declared December 2023 NET results; again, Akal University students recorded brilliant performances. In the Department of Punjabi, three students – Reenu Kaur, Rajpreet Kaur, and Simranjeet Kaur cracked NET. Head of the Department, Dr. Sandeep Singh, announced that Reenu cleared it with the JRF (Junior Research Fellowship). From the Department of Commerce, Matwal Singh cleared JRF, and Jashanpreet Kaur and Manjot Kaur earned NET. 

The above endeavors demonstrate the university’s unwavering commitment to progression. As an outcome, the university is reaching out to the world. Students, as well as faculty members, are creating their own space in the field of academics, research, and innovation.
