Akal Youth Parliament – Building the Visionary Leaders of Tomorrow!

Akal University’s Centre for Competitive Examination initiated organizing a Youth Parliament to equip students with a realistic understanding of the functioning of the nation’s democracy. Students entered the hall occupying various portfolios and ministries. The audience was overwhelmed to see their friends performing in the youth parliament.

A Hall Converted into the Parliament

When the event began, the multipurpose hall was turned into a replica of the Parliament, with a Speaker, Cabinet Ministers, Opposition Leaders, and Members of Parliament (MPs) occupying their respective seats. The reverberations of the past debates from the actual Lok Sabha appeared to fill the air, energizing the participants.

Beginning of the Session Proceedings

The participating students were divided into two groups as ruling party and opposition party. The Ruling party was led by Youth Prime Minister Mr. Parasdeep Singh, and the Opposition party was chaired by Mr. Sahil Kumar. Mr. Guneetpal Singh played the role of Speaker. The members of the opposition brought a calling attention motion on “Rising Cyber Crime in India” and it was raised by Member of Parliament Ms. Jaspreet. This was followed by a response from Youth Minister of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Ms. Amrit. A new bill on “Plastic Waste Management” was presented by Youth Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) Ms. Yogita. Certain provisions of the bill like a ban on single-use plastic were intensely debated among the members and a vote was called by the Speaker. The event was concluded with remarks from Ms. Deedarpreet Kaur.

Akal University acted as the ideal platform for empowering youth to discuss recurrent issues such as cybersecurity and environmental sustainability while gaining insights into policymaking. It highlighted the importance of youth involvement in national issues and the need for proactive steps toward digital safety and sustainability. Such initiatives by Akal University play a crucial role in shaping responsible future leaders for a better India.
