A Workshop That Grew More Than Just Mushrooms
From 21 to 23 November 2025, the Department of Life Sciences, in collaboration with the Akal Incubation Centre, conducted an intensive workshop on Mushroom Cultivation one of today’s most promising agri-entrepreneurship domains.
Sponsored by State Bank of India, this programme went beyond theory, giving participants hands-on experience in transforming scientific knowledge into profitable agricultural practice.

The workshop brought together some of the most respected professionals in the field:-
• Dr. Rakesh Sehrawat, Associate Scientist, CCS HAU Hisar.
• Dr. Sunil Beniwal, District Extension Specialist (Agronomy), CCS HAU Hisar.
• Dr. Vinita Rajput, District Extension Specialist (Horticulture), CCS HAU Hisar.
• Mr. Jashanpreet Singh Chahal, Owner, Chahal Mushroom Farm.
Their sessions covered Scientific principles of mushroom cultivation, Substrate preparation, Climate control & growth conditions, Pest & disease management, and Market opportunities and entrepreneurship models
Students didn’t just listen, they practiced, experimented, and learned by doing.
The Most Inspiring Highlight – The Field Visit
The field visit to Chahal Mushroom Farm became the defining moment of the workshop.
Participants interacted with Mr. Gurinder Singh, Assistant Director, Horticulture, gaining invaluable insights into:-
• Large-scale commercial production
• Current industry trends
• Government support schemes
• Entrepreneurial pathways in agri-business
For many students, this was their first real exposure to the business side of agriculture and it opened their eyes to new possibilities.
