Transforming Governance Through AI
On 29th August 2025, Akal University, Talwandi Sabo, organized an expert session featuring Prof. Shalabh, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of Physics. With 243 students and 15 faculty members present, the session focused on the National Portal for Grievances and the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in governance.
The National Portal for Grievances – A Digital Breakthrough
Prof. Shalabh highlighted the shift from traditional manual grievance redressal—often delayed and inconsistent—to a centralized, transparent, and citizen-friendly online system. The portal simplifies the grievance process by making it more systematic, accessible, and accountable.
AI-Powered Redressal – Speed, Accuracy & Transparency
The most impactful part of the session was Prof. Shalabh’s discussion on AI integration in grievance handling. He explained how AI is revolutionizing governance by:
- Automating data entry to reduce human error
- Categorizing grievances by urgency and subject matter
- Routing complaints efficiently to concerned departments
- Accelerating resolution timelines for citizens
He stressed that AI doesn’t just automate—it redefines governance as transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric.
From Classroom to Real-Life Applications
Moving beyond technology, Prof. Shalabh emphasized the power of education in shaping real-world problem solvers. He urged students to connect classroom learning with practical applications, cultivating skills such as critical thinking, ethics, and problem-solving to guide AI and digital tools towards positive social impact.
Student Interaction – Addressing Real Concerns
The interactive Q&A session gave students the chance to voice concerns about:
- Data security on digital portals
- Accessibility in rural areas
- Limitations of AI and the continued need for human oversight
This dialogue made the session more engaging and encouraged students to think critically about technology’s role in society.
Key Takeaways from the Session
- Students gained first-hand knowledge of AI’s role in modern governance
- The session connected academic education with real-world applications
It inspired students to see technology as a tool for ethical and social problem-solving
This session at Akal University was not just about technology—it was about empowering students to bridge the gap between education and governance, classroom and real life.
