Hands-On Learning in Action – Akal University Students Explore LED Manufacturing at ZORO Star Factory

The three-day workshop on “Empowering Young Learners for Energy Conservation: LED Bulbs and Tubelight Repairing” organized by the Eco Club in association with the Department of Physics, Akal University, concluded with a high-impact industrial visit that transformed theoretical knowledge into practical skills.

Sponsored by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the workshop aimed to equip young learners with hands-on expertise in energy-efficient lighting technology.

Day 3 Highlight — Visit to ZORO Star LED Lights Factory, Ambala

On 19 November 2025, a group of 44 students and 5 faculty members visited the ZORO Star LED Lights factory for an immersive learning experience. Guided by Dr. Sukhjeet Singh (Director, IQAC), Dr. Aqib Mujtaba (Assistant Director, IQAC) and Dr. Harpal Singh (Assistant Director, IQAC), the visit allowed participants to witness the complete life cycle of LED manufacturing.

Key Technical Processes Observed

Students gained in-depth exposure to industrial-grade LED production, including:

• Plastic injection molding & aluminum casting for durable LED body components
•  Precision PCB fabrication and mounting of LED chips — the core of LED assemblies
• CNC machine die-casting with cooling systems ensuring accuracy and durability
• Assembly of LEDs into housings with specialized power supply integration
• Laser-based product marking, packaging, and distribution processing

A special demonstration on heat dissipation and thermal management techniques showcased how temperature control plays a major role in LED efficiency and lifespan.

Learning Outcomes

The industrial visit proved to be a turning point in participants’ learning experience:
