TMTW-The Month That Was – exciting highlights of June 2025 !

 

The month of June was a blend of health, education, awareness, and student empowerment. Every activity promoted academic achievement and comprehensive development, from hosting enrichment camps to celebrating international days. Here are quick glimpses of the month’s most impactful moments-

Celebrating World Environment Day 2025

World Environment Day 2025 was commemorated at Akal University with a series of impactful events aimed at promoting environmental awareness and inspiring sustainable action on campus. This celebration was a result of the relentless efforts of the NSS Cell and the Eco Club of our university-

  • Awareness cum Hands-on Training Session- Mr. Muzzamil Khan, Executive Trainer, CCE chaired the session. The event was completed with enthusiastic participation, asserting the need to ban plastic and build a sustainable future. He presented the theme for 2025 – “Putting an End to Plastic Pollution” and explained how plastic pollution has a direct link with environmental degradation. He highlighted how plastic pollution contributes to the triple planetary crisis – climate change, loss of biodiversity, and pollution. The second half of the lecture discussed the origin of plastic and its classification.
  • Awareness Session by Major General GS Lamba- Major General Lamba’s keynote address, entitled “The Imperative of Environmental Protection: Our Role, Our Future,” presented a detailed view of the ecological crisis faced by the present world. He presented such looming world issues as climate change, loss of biodiversity, pollution, and depleting resources. He further emphasized the need for an immediate climate action plan to address this recurrent issue. He stated that educational institutions are centres of research, education, innovation, and leadership and hence best placed to spearhead change.
  • Awareness Session by Mr. Mohommed Mehebub Hossain Sardar- Mr. Sardar highlighted the dangers of increasing air, water, noise, and land pollution and presented the Smart Cities Mission as a model for green urban development. He proposed implementing green substitutes such as biodegradable packaging and eco‑bricks and upholding clean energy and electric cars as indispensable to counter fossil fuel dependence. The session ended on a Climate Action Pledge, motivating attendees to adopt an eco‑friendly lifestyle.

Initiating EcoSikh’s Guru Nanak Sacred Forest Project

Akal University, in collaboration with the Eco Sikh Organization, took an initiative to plant the Guru Nanak sacred forest. On this occasion, Prof. Gurmail Singh (Honorable Vice-Chancellor) Akal University, Major General G.S. Lamba (Dean Academic Affairs), Prof. Swaran Singh (Registrar), Dr. Janpeeet Singh, NSS Coordinator, and volunteers, other staff members and representatives of Eco Sikh Organization S. Buta Singh and S. Akashdeep Singh were present. Akal University has set a target of planting 5 thousand saplings in the Guru Nanak Sacred Forest in collaboration with the Eco Sikh Institute so that the biodiversity of the land can be restored. The EcoSikh team reached Akal University to finalize the site for this upcoming project.

The International Yoga Day 2025

The International Yoga Day was observed with enthusiasm and devotion at Akal University according to the global theme declared by the Government of India. The celebration helped to promote physical wellbeing, mental strength, and spiritual development in the university community. The event included an exclusive yoga session performed in the esteemed presence of Ms. Harpreet Kaur, Gold Medalist in the All India Yoga Championship 2019. The session saw enthusiastic participation from over 200 students, teachers, and staff, depicting the role of yoga in fostering a healthy and balanced way of life.

Beginning of the SUPER-30 Program’s New Batch

The most prestigious SUPER-30 Program, designed specifically for aspiring aspirants who want to crack the civil services examination. After a rigorous screening process, the students who made the short list will now receive expert guidance, access to relevant and authentic study materials, and regular mock tests. This program aims to assist the students who possess the caliber and strong passion to clear this examination.

Basics of Computers Summer Camp

Our Department of Computer Science and Engineering held a Summer Camp on Computer Fundamentals for students from various backgrounds to help them understand the need for digital literacy in the present competitive economy. The fundamental topics covered in this hands-on camp were Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AI tools, modern technologies, Internet of Things (IoT), and Google Forms, etc. This camp is specifically aimed at fresher students so that they can improve their computer abilities, which will boost their confidence and prepare them for future employment, internships, etc.

Physiotherapy Camps for Community Welfare

Akal University organized a comprehensive physiotherapy camp from 17 June to 4 July 2025 with the objective of providing healthcare services to rural populations. The outreach program was successful in reaching six villages of Punjab—Gurthandi, Mehta, Shergarh, Shahenwala, Chak Ruldu Wala, and Pathrala. It is organized by Dr. Ritu, a committed physiotherapist, and the camp provided individualized care and consultation to about 126 patients with different musculoskeletal and neurological disorders.

Centre for Competitive Examination (CCE) Organized Summer Camp

Akal University’s Centre for Competitive Examination has proudly announced the free UPSC Summer Camp 2025. This camp is scheduled for June 18–July 18. It is specifically designed to provide undergraduate students with free, all-inclusive coaching to assist them in understanding the nature and preparation strategy of the toughest UPSC Civil Services Examination. The major objectives of this summer camp are- coverage of the general syllabus for competitive exams, skill enhancement through reading, writing, debate, and elocution competitions, and regular tests and performance monitoring.

With a magnificent fusion of academic excellence, sustainability, health, and service, the month of June reflected our university’s goal of shaping compassionate citizens and also making them competent enough to compete in this rapidly evolving world. The university’s core values of excellence, empathy, and involvement were reinforced by each event, which offered fresh opportunities for students to grow, learn, and give back.
