From Learning to Living – Physiotherapy Students Explore Spirituality, History & Humanity in Amritsar

The Department of Physiotherapy at Akal University, Talwandi Sabo, organized a one-day educational trip to Shri Amritsar Sahib for 62 BPT students from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year. The trip aimed to blend academic learning with real-life exposure, offering students a deeper understanding of spirituality, history, and humanitarian service.

The trip was led by Dr. Navjot Kaur (PT), Assistant Professor and Head of the Department, and coordinated by Dr. Ritu (PT) and Dr. Kamaldeep Jindal (PT).

A Spiritual Beginning at the Golden Temple

The journey began with a visit to the sacred Golden Temple, one of the most revered spiritual sites in India. Students immersed themselves in the peaceful and divine atmosphere, offering prayers and experiencing a sense of inner calm and reflection.

This spiritual exposure helped students reconnect with values of humility, service, and gratitude—essential qualities for healthcare professionals.

A Tribute to History at Jallianwala Bagh

The next stop was the historic Jallianwala Bagh, a site that holds immense importance in India’s freedom struggle. Students paid tribute to the martyrs and gained a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made during the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.

This visit instilled a sense of patriotism and awareness about the nation’s history, making the learning experience more meaningful and impactful.

A Lesson in Humanity at All India Pingalwara Charitable Society

The most impactful part of the trip was the visit to Pingalwara, a renowned humanitarian institution dedicated to serving the destitute and differently-abled.

Students attended an inspiring session by Dr. Inderjeet Kaur Ji, Patron-President of the organization, who shared insights into the life and selfless service of Bhagat Puran Singh.

They learned how Pingalwara provides:

  • Shelter and care to the needy
  • Medical support to patients
  • Rehabilitation services for differently-abled individuals

This visit gave students a real-world perspective on community-based rehabilitation, a key aspect of physiotherapy practice.

Bridging Academics with Real-Life Learning

The educational trip was not just a visit but a transformative experience that helped students:

  • Develop spiritual awareness and emotional intelligence
  • Understand the importance of social responsibility in healthcare
  • Learn the role of physiotherapy in community service and rehabilitation
  • Gain practical exposure beyond classroom learning

A Truly Enriching Experience

The one-day trip to Amritsar proved to be educational, inspiring, and deeply enriching. It successfully combined spirituality, history, and humanitarian values, leaving a lasting impact on the students.

Such initiatives by Akal University continue to shape students into not just skilled professionals but also compassionate human beings committed to serving society.
