Bridging Hearts and Generations – Akal University Students Visit Asra Old Age Home for Community Learning

The Department of Education, Akal University, Talwandi Sabo, continues to uphold its commitment to holistic and value-based learning. On 22nd October 2025, as part of the Community Living Programme, the department organized an educational and community outreach visit to Asra Old Age Home, Mansa, Punjab, for students of B.A.B.Ed. and B.Sc.B.Ed. Semester V (Session 2025–2026).

The initiative aimed to instill empathy, social awareness, and moral responsibility among prospective teachers—helping them understand that true education lies in serving humanity.

A Lesson in Humanity – Connecting with the Elderly

During the visit, students had the opportunity to meet and interact with the residents of Asra Old Age Home. The founder and proprietor, Dr. Yadwinder Singh, shared the inspiring story behind the institution’s establishment, explaining how he and his wife self-funded the entire project to provide care and comfort to elderly individuals in need.

Students engaged in meaningful conversations, listened to life experiences, and expressed compassion and respect towards the residents. These heartfelt interactions created a reflective understanding of intergenerational relationships and strengthened the students’ sense of community care and empathy.

Acts of Kindness that Touched Lives

As a gesture of goodwill, the students distributed fruits, biscuits, and clothing items among the elderly residents. These small yet thoughtful acts of kindness brought visible smiles and emotional warmth to the faces of the inmates, reminding everyone that compassion and care are the truest forms of service.

The experience served as a powerful reminder of the importance of emotional support, respect, and dignity in the lives of the elderly.

Education with a Heart – Building Socially Conscious Teachers

The Department of Education commended the enthusiastic participation of both faculty and students, emphasizing that the visit was more than just an academic activity—it was a practical extension of value-based education.

By stepping outside the classroom and engaging with society, students learned how teaching goes beyond textbooks. It’s about nurturing kindness, humility, and social commitment—qualities that define the teachers of tomorrow.

This visit beautifully aligned with Akal University’s vision of producing educators who are academically proficient, socially responsible, and ethically grounded.
