TMTW April 2025 – A Month of Action & Awareness at Akal University

Akal University recently arranged various educational and awareness-raising activities that sparked curiosity, encouraged creativity, and promoted community and student action. The campus was filled with creativity, inspiration, and activity as environmental-focused events and global observances were celebrated. Here are the glimpses of the exciting events hosted this month.

Expert Talk on Sustainable Future, Save Energy

Akal University’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell has successfully organized an insightful session on “Sustainable Future Save Energy”. The session was chaired by Mr. Jatinder Pal Singh, Sustainability Lead at Kalgidhar Trust. His captivating lecture emphasized the need for sustainable living, energy conservation, and our part in preserving the environment for future generations. The event was hosted under the Environment Education Project. It is supported by the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology and the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.

Offer Letter Distribution Ceremony at Akal University

Akal University with great pride announces the fantastic news that 69 of our students have got their offer letters successfully after taking part in a recently conducted Placement Drive with the gracious patronage of The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib. Both former and current students of Akal University and eligible candidates participated enthusiastically in this event.

Celebrating Innovation: EDUFEST 2025

Our Department of Education organized a vibrant event named EDUFEST. It was a perfect blend of fun and creativity. The major highlights of the event were a Teaching Aid exhibition, a time machine, an escape room, book cover design, and poster-making competitions. The event was successfully completed under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Rashim Wadhwa, the Head of the Department. EDUFEST was an actual demonstration of Akal University’s allegiance to empowering future educators with vision and an innovative spirit.

Video Making Competition

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) initiated a Short Video Competition under the Environment Education Programme, an activity funded by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The competition was initiated on 24 April and was available to students from all disciplines. Participants were encouraged to send short videos with a maximum of 60 seconds, highlighting innovative ideas, practices, and messages on the theme “Save Energy, Save Water.”

Speech Competition EEP

The Speech Competition on the topic “Save Energy, Save Water” was successfully organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) under the Environmental Education Programme. The activity was organized with the support of the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. The competition saw active involvement of students from different departments, each with something unique to contribute and passionate arguments on the urgency of saving energy and water resources.

Two-day Workshop under Environment Education Program

Prof. Amrik Singh Ahluwalia, the former pro-vice-chancellor of Eternal University in Baru Sahib, delivered the keynote address. In light of growing environmental concerns, he emphasized the importance of conserving water and energy. Dr. Uday Pratap Singh and Prof. Archana Chaudhary led a series of expert sessions throughout the workshop that focused on various critical issues associated with water and energy conservation. This workshop was a blend of expert talks, interactive sessions and most importantly hands-on training.

Expert Session by Professor Vinod Kumar Garg

An expert session was hosted by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as part of the Environment Education Program. Prof. Vinod Kumar Garg, a prominent environmentalist and academician of the Department of Environmental Science and Technology, Central University of Punjab, presided over the session. He gave an interesting and informative lecture that merged scientific inputs with real-life examples to stress the need to conserve energy and water resources.

International Webinar on SRI GURU NANAK DEV JI – Heritage and Legacy

Akal University’s Guru Nanak Chair is organized a vibrant International Seminar on SRI GURU NANAK DEV JI: Heritage and Legacy, a significant gathering to reflect on the life, teachings, and enduring philosophy of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the visionary leader of Sikhism and messenger of peace, unity, and world brotherhood.

Model Making Competition

The event was characterized by active involvement by students from different departments, which showed their strong interest in environmental sustainability. Under the Model Making Competition, 24 students showcased innovative working models like solar-powered irrigation systems, rainwater harvesting systems, and greywater recycling systems. These models were admired for their creativity, efficiency, and usability.

Hospital Visit

The Department of Physiotherapy organized a clinical visit for students from the first year Bachelor of Physiotherapy to the Sidhu Hospital, Talwandi Sabo, as part of their Clinical Training-II module. The major objective of the visit was to provide practical exposure to hospital operations, enhance their understanding of physiotherapy in orthopedic settings, and familiarize students with clinical procedures and healthcare protocols.

Poster Presentation Competition

The Poster Presentation under the theme “Save Energy, Save Water” was conducted by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in association with the Punjab State Council of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The initiative was to generate awareness among the students and local community regarding the need to conserve energy and water, two resources important for sustainable living.

Expert Talk by Er. Baldev Singh Saran

As part of a major initiative towards generating environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable energy practices, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) hosted an expert talk by Er. Baldev Singh Sran, Former Chairman and Managing Director, Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd. (PSPCL). Er. Sran initiated the session by explaining what energy conservation entails, highlighting that it is not simply conserving electricity. It also means minimizing the use of non-renewable energy sources such as coal and oil, and optimizing the utilization of renewable energy resources such as solar, wind, hydro, and biomass.

Celebrating Heritage Day

To celebrate Heritage Day, Akal University’s Department of Physiotherapy organized a vibrant event. The event featured the exciting stories of our rich heritage, followed by traditional heritage riddles. And a major highlight of the celebration was an engaging skit that challenged the prevalent superstitions in the society. It was full of enjoyment and laughter, and participants participated enthusiastically.

Celebrating World Malaria Day

The NSS Unit of Akal University organized a district-level event to commemorate World Malaria Day, aimed at spreading awareness regarding malaria prevention and control. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Usha Goyal (DHO Bathinda), Dr. Ravi Kant Gupta (SMO, Talwandi Sabo), Dr. Parneet Kaur, and Ms. Gursimrat Kaur (Block Educator). More than 250 NSS volunteers actively participated in the event.

Village Campaign: Reaching Out, Rooting Change

In a remarkable outreach campaign, students went to two villages—Bangi Nihal Singh Vala and Bangi Kalan—to encourage sustainable ways at the grassroots level. The campaign involved energy & water conservation awareness. Students encouraged villagers to Save Energy and Save Water through personal interactions, demonstrations, and slogan-making. Students conducted surveys to comprehend environmental issues and patterns of resource usage.

Valedictory Session

Pledge-taking ceremony was hosted on the campus, and the entire university community gathered to take a vow to protect our environment with the engaging efforts. This long program ended with a valedictory session that celebrated engagement, innovativeness, and dedication. Outstanding contributors in different categories received awards and certificates. All the dignitaries were present and appreciated the efforts of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell in the successful completion of the program.

These influential activities at Akal University showed how education can be a strong weapon for social and environmental transformation. Through intellectual celebrations such as EDUFEST, health consciousness campaigns such as World Malaria Day, cultural events such as Heritage Day, and the revolutionary program Environment Education Program, the university promoted a value-based, holistic learning environment.
